Here, it is great for picking stars away from nebula, galaxies, etc.ġ8. This is an amazing tool and is really useful for editing certain “worry lines” on portraits, for example. Highlight the Mask Layer and choose Filters -> Enhance -> Wavelet-decompose.

Duplicate the Layer by right clicking and bringing up the Layer menu.

One of the tools I am going to use was originally a plug-in in earlier versions, so you should upgrade to the newest version. When I saw it, I immediately knew that this was a perfect subject for my method.

Often, they use HDR to create photos with dynamic range far beyond the object itself. In fact, most astrophotographs of nebula represent a view that no human being has ever seen.

The desired end product is something beautiful. My initial reaction to the processing of astrophotographs was that one had to be “scientifically rigorous.” As I delve further into this area, I realize that amateur astrophotography is art, informed by science. And that practice has led me to adapting a technique for star reduction that I would like to share with you. While it is going to be a long time before I am ready to meaningfully contribute my DSLR astrophotographs, I have been learning and practicing post-processing of astrophotographs. Having recently arrived at astrophotography as a hobby, I am bringing together two loves - astronomy and digital photography/post-processing of images. If we reduce their intensity, we have a more visually powerful photo. While the stars in the photo on the left are accurate, they detract from the natural beauty of the Andromeda Galaxy. I'll post the details including the ShellOut modification and the other script, if anyone wants to see them.Photography is about emphasizing the subject in a photo.

There's a $40 home edition and a $70 pro edition both include the PNG capability. That degrading is really minimal, still, once I saw how well it all worked, I ponied up for the paid version so I could use PNG format for the tempfile.

NeatImage is one of several fairly well known commercial noise reduction programs, and while there are others often considered to be better in comparative reviews by people running Windows or Mac, it does an amazing job compared to anything else I've tried that runs natively on Linux. Having experimented with several GIMP noise reduction plugins with mixed success, I downloaded the NeatImage free version and, being satisfied with its performance on my K3ii's files at ISO ~800 (a common concert shooting setting) I got a bit obsessed with trying to streamline it into a GIMP-based workflow.
